Inspired by the Water. Designed for the Home.
Kitchen Remodel | Ankeny, IA
Sometimes a renovation begins because you want a change. Other times, the change chooses you.
After a water leak upstairs forced this family to remove a portion of their kitchen ceiling, they lived with the disruption for far too long. When it was finally time to put their home back together, the goal became bigger than simply replacing what had been damaged. We wanted to create a kitchen that made their home feel whole again.
Some of this family's favorite memories are made just beyond these walls, gathered around their backyard pool throughout the summer. That became the inspiration for an upscale coastal aesthetic—one that would subtly connect the kitchen to the outdoor space without feeling overly themed.
Natural hickory cabinetry brings warmth and movement reminiscent of driftwood, balanced by crisp white cabinetry and soft blue accents tucked unexpectedly inside the glass-front cabinet. Warm gold finishes add an understated layer of luxury throughout the space, while carefully selected lighting carries the story even further. The sculptural fixture above the window complements the existing dining light, with its flowing shape subtly reminiscent of waves.
And then there is the stone.
Rather than treating the countertop as simply another finish, we wanted it to become a piece of art. Dramatic veining flows across the kitchen and up the backsplash, culminating at the island where a thin knife-edge profile and waterfall end create a striking focal point that grounds the entire room.
The result is a kitchen that feels light and relaxed yet refined—a space inspired by the water, designed for gathering, and created to once again feel like the heart of this family's home.
