This kitchen transformation was about more than updating finishes—it was about completely reworking how the space functioned and felt within the home.
Originally, the layout was closed off by a large peninsula that blocked the connection between the kitchen, dining area, and patio doors. While the space had potential, it felt disconnected and didn’t support the way the homeowners wanted to live day to day. A bulky soffit further dated the space, visually lowering the ceiling and limiting the overall design.
The first priority was opening the space.
By removing the peninsula, we were able to create a clear line of sight and movement between the kitchen, dining area, and outdoor access. This allowed the space to feel immediately larger, more connected, and far more functional.
In place of the peninsula, a large central island was introduced—designed to serve as the true hub of the home. It provides ample storage and workspace, making it a natural gathering place for everyday use.
To further enhance usability, angled power strips were integrated into the island. This keeps outlets accessible for small appliances and daily tasks without interrupting the clean lines of the cabinetry and countertops.
Removing the bulkhead was a key move in modernizing the space. This allowed cabinetry to extend higher, creating a more custom, built-in look while visually lifting the ceiling and opening up the room.
The material and color palette was intentionally chosen to both brighten the space and reflect the home’s surroundings. Located on a farm, the design pulls subtle inspiration from nature—using warm, soft tones that feel light, grounded, and timeless.
To elevate the overall feel, walnut accents were incorporated throughout the space. These moments of natural wood add depth and contrast, while bringing in a layer of warmth and quiet luxury that balances the lighter cabinetry.
A built-in bar area was designed with two-toned cabinetry, creating visual interest while tying together the finishes used throughout the kitchen. This not only adds function, but also reinforces a cohesive, layered design.
Every detail—from storage placement to hardware selection—was considered to ensure the space works as beautifully as it looks.
What was once a closed-off and dated kitchen is now an open, inviting space that supports both everyday routines and gathering.
The new layout allows for better flow, improved functionality, and a stronger connection to the surrounding home and landscape. With intentional material choices, layered finishes, and thoughtful design details, the kitchen now feels bright, elevated, and truly aligned with the way the homeowners live.
